Our story

Where the land teaches and the brook keeps time

We came to these 15 acres with seeds in our pockets and more questions than answers. What began as a quiet dream has grown into a living, breathing homestead — chickens in the yard, ponies in the pasture, herbs drying in the barn, and a kitchen that smells of something good most every evening. This is By the Brook Farm, and we're glad you found your way here.

Mini ponies in the pasture at By the Brook Farm

The animals

The ones who keep us honest

The chickens were first — a small flock that arrived in a cardboard box and promptly took over the yard. Then came the mini ponies, two of them, with their enormous eyes and their talent for escaping. They are not livestock so much as characters, each with a name, a personality, and an opinion about everything. They remind us daily why we chose this life.

From the kitchen

Blackberry and lavender galette
Summer

Blackberry & Lavender Galette

A free-form tart that forgives imperfection and rewards patience. Blackberries from the bramble, lavender from the herb bed, and butter pastry that shatters at the touch of a fork.
